As of Feb 1, 2024 the American Dental Association has recommended that dental offices stop using lead aprons and thyroid collars for images. This was determined after experts panels with the ADA and the Council of Scientific Affairs were able to conclude that the aprons and thyroid collars block the primary X-ray beam, thus causing damage to the images needed for treatment and diagnosis.
Wernick Dentistry uses lead cone beams in our x-ray machines and modern digital x-rays, which direct waves away from the patient and focus only on the space needed to acquire an image. Patients with previous cancer or during a pregnancy can relax knowing that the images we capture are not interfering with your health.
